Discover another facet of history by immersing yourself in the daily life of German troops during World War II.
The Atlantic Wall Museum plunges you into one of the 4 bunkers of Battery Todt.
The Todt Offensive Battery was inaugurated in the presence of the grand admirals Raeder and Dönitz, among others.
Equipped with four 380mm artillery pieces in casemates (bunkers), this structure, previously known as the Siegfried Battery, was renamed "Todt Battery" in memory of the German construction engineer who passed away in a plane accident in January 1942.
Built not far from Cap Griz-Nez and pointing towards England, this battery constituted a formidable ensemble. It fired shells, either explosive or armor-piercing, up to 42 kilometers. The Kriegsmarine had a strategic location: a distance of 29 kilometers separated Griz-Nez from Dover, easily reaching the English coasts.
Under the command of Corvette Captain Klaus Momber, it was the 242nd Coastal Artillery Battalion (MAa 242) that was responsible for the offensive batteries in the Pas-de-Calais region: Battery Lindemann, Battery Grosser Kurfürst, Battery Gris-Nez, and the Todt Battery.
