পৈতৃক নিবাস চট্টগ্রামের রাউজান উপজেলার বীনাজুড়ী গ্রামে হলেও উমার জন্ম ৯ সেপ্টেম্বর ১৯৫৫ সালে চট্টগ্রামের রহমতগঞ্জের প্রবাল চৌধুরী সড়কের দেওয়ানজী পুকুর লেনে। জন্ম থেকেই পারিবারিক সাংস্কৃতিক আবহে বেড়ে উঠেছেন স্বাধীন বাংলা বেতার কেন্দ্রের শব্দসৈনিক বীর মুক্তিযোদ্ধা শিল্পী উমা খান।
তাঁর অপর ভাইবোন স্বাধীন বাংলা বেতার কেন্দ্রের শব্দসৈনিক ও বীর মুক্তিযোদ্ধা প্রবাল চৌধুরী ও কল্যাণী ঘোষ। উমা খান এর দুই সংসার এর সব সন্তান ই আমেরিকায় স্থায়ীভাবে বসবাস করছেন। গান তাদের রক্তে বয়ে চলেছে তাইতো উমা খান এর তিন ছেলে এক মেয়ে সবাই ই গানের চর্চায় থাকেন। BUSHRA CHANNEL এর পক্ষ থেকে সুরেলা কন্ঠি উমা খান এর অনেক অনেক শুভকামনা রইল।

In 2002, she won the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Musician for the film Hachan Raja.Uma was born on September 9, 1955 in Dewanji Pukur Lane, Prabal Chowdhury Road, Rahmatganj, Chittagong, although her ancestral home was in Binajuri village of Raujan Upazila, Chittagong. Since birth, Uma Khan has grown up in a family cultural atmosphere, a warrior freedom fighter artist of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra.Her other siblings are Prabal Chowdhury and Kalyani Ghosh, the soldiers of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra and brave freedom fighters. All the children of Uma Khan's two families are living permanently in America.
