Hohnstein, an idyllic small town in Saxon Switzerland about 40 minutes from Dresden is world-famous for its hand puppet tradition.

The Hohnstein Casper is certainly the best known figure of the Hohnstein hand puppet theatre. The well-attended puppet theatre in Hohnstein is named after the most famous puppeteer Max Jacob.

The new woodcarving workshop for hand puppets was officially opened as part of this year`s Hohnstein Cristmas market.

A visit to Hohnstein is not only worthwhile at Cristmas time: a fantastic landscape invites you to go hiking and climbing. Hohnstein is home to one of the world`s best mountaineers, climbing icon Bernd Arnold.
