Flatrock 50k
FlatRock was the first and is the oldest trail ultra in Kansas. The 50k course consists of one loop, a technical, mostly single-track, out and back along the Elk River Hiking Trail, forest trail winding through unique limestone bluffs, rock formations & picturesque vistas. The course features memorable obstacles like the Crack and the Bowl, both seen in the video.

Race Spoilers below:
I felt well trained going into the event. I anticipated a temp in the low 80s like the previous week. It ended up being low 90s. Foolishly, I did not adjust my approach. I felt great thru the halfway point.

The heat caught up to me shortly after. My hands started swelling. I took my pack off to try to cool down. Moving slowly, I was dry heaving leading up to the last aid station. Beware the chair. As soon as I sat down, I knew my race was over. There was another runner at the aid station that went on to finish the last 3.8 miles but took him a long time and nearly collapsed at the finish. I made the right choice for me as I had to carry my kids up the stairs that night and am not experiencing any negative effects from the race.

This race was a stark contrast to my fall 50 miler last year. I went out very conservative and felt as if I could've kept going after the finish. Hopefully I can learn my lesson, again. This is my first DNF, did not finish and it probably won't be my last. Its important to remember that not matter what happens, I'm a dude.
