What are Speed vs Power Jumpers?
Its just a term to describe the way an athlete is able to use either their “relative” speed or power/strength to influence their jump.

And because with all 4 jumping events in track and field, long jump, triple jump, high jump, and pole vault, you have a significant horizontal speed component, then the Speed vs Power jumper really comes down to how fast you are running, and your own bodies tendencies towards muscular activation and tendons reactivity.

In this video we simply the role muscles and tendons have in ground contact and takeoff.

Stretch Shortening Cycle
Eccentric - lowering phase
Isometric - static phase
Concentric - jumping phase

Velocity = Displacement/Time
Speed = distance/time
Acceleration = Change in Velocity
Momentum = Mass*Velocity
Force = Mass*acceleration
(Acceleration = change in Velocity) ~ (Impulse = change in Momentum)
Impulse = Force*time

So by increasing the amount of force and by having more time to do it leads to increase in impulse (impulse = a change in momentum or Impulse = force * time)

Energy is the form of work that is stored and work is what is done!
(energy is the ability to do work)
Work (energy) = force*distance
Force = Mass * acceleration
So speed jumpers will have a certain mass but greater translated acceleration (carry over from their approach), and their greater leg stiffness means they will not bend down as much at take off.
(Decreased Range of motion or a short SSR)

And Power Jumpers will have a mass but less translated acceleration, and therefore Greater knee bend at take off,
(Increased Range of motion or a long SSR)

Power = work/time
And assuming equal power outputs at takeoff:
Speed jumpers will do less work at take off, but do it much quicker
Power Jumpers will do more work at take off, because its slower.
