A jury found an Auburn police officer guilty of murder and assault Thursday for the shooting death of a 26-year-old man in 2019.

Auburn Police Department Officer Jeffrey Nelson was charged with second-degree murder and assault more than a year after the 2019 shooting death of Jesse Sarey. Nelson was trying to arrest Sarey, who was unarmed, outside of a convenience store for disorderly conduct.

The altercation on May 31, 2019, lasted just 67 seconds.
