Art is an expression. I wanted this self-portrait to express a feeling from inside about working from the heart. Hummingbirds have a history of bringing love and joy into life, and as this portrait is a snapshot of where I am today, I wanted the focus to be on exactly that. I am super thankful for the opportunity to wake up each day and decide where I want to put my energy.⁣

These lupine flowers that surround me are one of the most attractive to hummingbirds 🌿. You will also notice a single ladybug hanging out on my glasses. For those of you who don't know, ladybugs (for me) are always a strong sign of good luck and good things to come.⁣

I wanted to add a special element to this work, so I used this beautiful gold leaf. It was my first time working with gold leaf and it did NOT disappoint! I will be adding these beautiful shimmery touches to many paintings to come.⁣
