The statue in the form of a man with a crown holding a three-edged spear or trident is made of andesite stone. This statue was found not intact, only half the body measuring 31 x 26 cm. This ancient statue was found in a dug box on the southwest side.

On the fourth day, the excavation team again found andesite stone statues in the dug box on the north side. The statue is identified as the embodiment of Mahakala. That is in the form of a man without a crown standing holding a mace with a size of 63 x 30 x 12 cm.

The first expert cultural guardian of the East Java BPCB, Vidi Susanto, said the two statues were related. The two statues are usually attached to the entrance gate structure in the sacred building.

"Mahakala, which I read about his literacy, occupies the left niche. Then Nandiswara occupies the right niche," he explained to reporters, Tuesday (16/11).

The field coordinator of the Pandegong Site excavation explained that the two statues characterize the Hindu Shiva sect. Both become standard in sacred buildings or places of worship.

The Nandiswara statue is interpreted as a mount of Lord Shiva depicted as a human. While Mahakala is defined as the ruler of time. "He's a gatekeeper, it's termed like a gatekeeper," said Vidi.
