Follow along as we leave the Diamond Head Trail Parking Lot, camp overnight at Elfin Lakes, and proceed to Opal Cone.
The trail from Elfin Lakes to Opal Cone is completely exposed to the elements for a majority of the time. Make sure to wear sunscreen and bring enough food and water.
My GPS clocked the route at 16km round-trip and 850m of total elevation with Elfin Lakes as the start and finish point. The trail itself for most of the time is not that technical but there are a few places where you will need to scramble. Thumbnail picture is taken from one stretch where it's incredibly narrow and the lower side drops off for a couple hundred feet. You might struggle here if you have difficulty with heights.
It was a very rewarding hike and I would do it again. If you have any questions please feel free to ask in the comments section.
