Earlier this month, U.S. President Joe Biden made the decision to increase the tariffs levied on Chinese-made products being imported to the U.S. - including EVs.

Shortly after, the European Union suggested it might soon impose new tougher tariffs on Chinese-made and imported-to-Europe electric vehicles.

But why are these tariffs being carried out? Is China subsidizing its domestic auto production for export purposes? And just what will the consequence of this all be?
