Countryballs - History of Cuba
е Cuba is an island of freedom in the North American basin. Cuba is known for its communist form of government and ties to the USSR, but the country is not limited to that! The history of Cuba begins when Christopher Columbus landed in Cuba on an expedition. On the territory of Cuba they found local people who were soon taken into slavery by the Spaniards. When the Spaniards left Cuba, the people hoped for sovereignty and independent development of the island, but in the same year Cuba was occupied by the United States. Cuban guerrillas during the war of independence met the Americans as liberators but were soon subjugated by their liberators. In 1902 Cuba gained its final independence. In 1965 Cuba became communist and strengthened its relations with the USSR. Cuba allowed nuclear warheads to be placed on its island and actively participated in the arms race. With Gorbochev's arrival in the USSR, relations with the U.S. became warmer and have steadily strengthened since the breakup
