I recently released a video on how I pruned my fig tree. It generated a lot of questions, both online and offline, about my aggressive pruning.

The main question was, “By cutting off so much, wasn’t I reducing the amount of fruit that the tree would give in the new season?” So, this video mainly addresses that question.

The other was, “Was I damaging the tree by pruning so much off?” No! This tree is over 30 years old and is well established. An aggressive pruning only makes it grow more vigorously in the following season.

If it was a younger tree, I wouldn’t prune it so much - which could indeed damage it. Instead of cutting off ALL the new wood, I’d prune it back by about a third.
