Samajwadi Party’s Iqra Hasan, one of the youngest MPs in the 18th Lok Sabha, made history by winning from Uttar Pradesh’s Kairana. She has overcome communal rhetoric and patriarchal norms to secure her seat in Parliament.

In this interview with Manisha Pande, Hasan discusses her experiences as a young woman in politics, participation of Muslim women in politics, studying in London, and more. “The dropout rate in higher education is really high in my constituency. Without education, early marriages continue.
