Thanks to our supporters in our growing Patreon Army, we’ve produced a bonus chapter for our video "WW2 Guns Still Being Used Today." If you want to watch it while supporting our channel, you can check it out here:   / simplehistory

Augusto Pinochet became President of Chile on September 11, 1973, after overthrowing the democratically elected President Salvador Allende with support from the U.S. Government. His nearly 17-year rule was marked by severe human rights abuses and an assault on democracy, with the impacts still felt in Chile today. The full extent of his regime's terror, including the fate of many victims, only began to be uncovered through reports published in the early 2000s.
