The miniature railway that likes to think big...
The Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway's 'Steam and Diesel Gala', held over the weekend of the 11th-12th of May, would see no fewer than 7 locomotives in service on each day of the event. Day one of the Gala saw most of the RH&DR's serviceable fleet in operation on the line, bolstered by visiting Pacific Class locomotive "Whillan Beck" from the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway.

Over the course of the day, a variety of services operated over RH&DR metals. "Whillan Beck" spent most of the day operating a shuttle service between New Romney and Hythe, while the RH&DR fleet were responsible for a mix of Non-Stop and regular passenger services over the full line between Hythe and Dungeness. In the afternoon, the visiting loco would trade its shuttle service for a Triple-Headed special, working from New Romney down to Dungeness and back.

Locomotives:
RH&DR Pacific Class - No2 "Northern Chief"
R&ER Pacific Class - No12 "Whillan Beck"
RH&DR 'North American' Pacific Class - No9 "Winston Churchill"
RH&DR Pacific Class - No8 "Hurricane" (Running without Smoke Deflectors, and as "Bluebottle" on one side)
RH&DR Mountain Class - No5 "Hercules"
RH&DR Diesel Class - No12 "J.B. Snell"
RH&DR Mountain Class - No6 "Samson"

During the day at New Romney, three more RH&DR resident locomotives were posed outside the loco shed; with No3 "Southern Maid" and No10 "Doctor Syn" rubbing shoulders, while No11 "Black Prince" sat a couple of lines over. In addition to this, No4 "The Bug" was also in steam, providing 'Driver for a Fiver' courses within the station limits.

All footage filmed on Saturday the 11th of May 2019.
