BMW has unveiled its much anticipated fourth-generation’ G45’ version of its big-selling X3 SUV and we get up close with this one-on-one, deep dive walkaround.

With bolder styling, wider and longer dimensions, BMW Operating System 9 tech, and promises of improved efficiency and performance, the all-new X3 takes on the likes of Audi Q5, Mercedes-Benz GLC and Volvo XC60 as the king of the premium midsize family haulers.

The X3 makes its global debut with four different variants offering the choice of turbo petrol, plug-in hybrid and diesel power.

We preview the flagship X3 M50 xDrive version, packing 293kW and 580Nm from its 3.0-litre turbocharged petrol six with 48-volt mild-hybrid electric assistance. It brings family friendly practicality, with 570 litres of boot space in a package swift enough for 4.6sec 0-100km claimed performance.

Chasing Cars contributor Nathan Ponchard takes us for a deep dive in this comprehensive walkaround.
