I'm on a quest to sample all of the world's foulest-smelling chemicals, and the next ones on my list are the isocyanides. To make isocyanides, however, I'll need organic amines like the one I'm making in this video: tert-butylamine. By itself, it's already a pretty cool and useful chemical, and plus, it has fairly powerful odor of its own, so making it was kind of a no-brainer for me!

WARNING: the chemicals shown in this video are dangerous if mishandled. Sodium hydroxide and sulfuric acid are both highly corrosive. Tert-butylamine is also mildly toxic, and it tends to produce a lot of unpleasant fumes which may irritate the respiratory tract. Anyone who attempts this procedure does so at their own risk!
