A walk through Elmina Castle!

This was the second fort / castle we visited in Ghana that was part of the West African slave trade. All of these castles and forts along the coast have one thing in common, the door of no return. Through the door, people left their homes and never returned until they boarded a boat that took them, against their will, to the Americas.

Walking through Elmina Castle is extremely haunting and makes you feel so upset, even more so when you hear the story.

If you're in Ghana and only want to visit one slave trade castle, I would recommend going to Elmina. The one in Cape Coast is very, very touristy.
