I was on the big island last week and did some snorkeling and diving. The night manta ray dive is awesome if you ever get the chance to do it. They set up a bunch of underwater lights that attract plankton and intern the costal manta rays. The manta rays were 4-7ft wide, but seemed much larger flying within inches of me. The plankton also attracted opleu and akule (goggle eyes), it was one big feeding frenzy. We dove during the day to familiarize us with the spot and then did the night dive. My wife and I volunteered for the ironman triathlon world championships and then hiked down to the Cpt Cook monument to snorkel the next day. It drops off extremely fast down there and so the snorkeling is pretty good. I saw a spotted eagle ray for the first time along with a ton of parrot fish. I didn't get the chance to do any fishing on the short trip but I figured I would share the experience with all of you anyway.

Additionally I will be at the 17th annual kayak papio fishing tournament out of kualoa regional park this weekend (19-20th of October 2019). It is 40 dollars to enter the 2 day tournament, Saturday and Sunday. I will mostly target pelagic like I normally do, not that catching papio isn’t fun. There are prizes for the 3 biggest papio and the biggest other fish. As of now I will just be camping Saturday night, but fishing both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday evening I’ll have my kayak and all my gear setup. Feel free to come say hi and ask any questions that you may have. If you want to sign up or have questions about the tournament you can contact Stan at windward boats. 808-380-5859 or [email protected].
