The Fokker Dr.1 and for that matter the Sopwith Triplane were good airplanes. They had good performance and were combat effective, but why?

It can't be because they were triplanes, otherwise we would have seen more triplanes. In this episode I'll cover the Dr.1 and explain why triplanes are a poor design choice but how Fokker got around that and make the Dr1 so good.
