Seven Years in Tibet (1997) is a biographical war drama based on Austrian mountaineer and Schutzstaffel sergeant Heinrich Harrer's 1952 memoir of the same name. The story is about Harrer and fellow Austrian Peter Aufschnaiter's experiences in Tibet between 1944 and 1951. During World War II in 1939, the two of them were trapped in a prisoner-of-war camp in Dehradun in the Himalayas due to their German citizenship. In 1944, the duo escaped the prison and head to Tibet.

Directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud, 'Seven Years in Tibet stars Brad Pitt (Harrer) and David Thewlis (Peter). John Williams, who composed the music for the film, was nominated for the 40th Grammy Awards and the 55th Golden Globe Awards.
