The New Zealand government has announced adjustments to various visa categories, aligning their wage thresholds with the median wage rate, which stands at NZD$31.61 per hour as of February 28, 2024. These changes affect several visa types, including the Skilled Migrant Category, the Green List Straight to Residence and Work to Residence visas, and the Parent Category residence class visa.

Furthermore, the wage threshold for the Transport Sector Work to Residence Visa will also be increased in accordance with the new median wage, excluding bus drivers.

However, it's important to note that these adjustments do not extend to the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV). In December, the government indicated that the AEWV will retain its current rate of NZD$29.66 per hour.

Additionally, to maintain consistency, the pause in wage threshold adjustments applies to AEWV-linked work visas that were either established at or indexed to the median wage rate as of February 2023, which was NZD$29.66 per hour.

These changes reflect the government's commitment to keeping visa policies in line with economic indicators, ensuring fairness and effectiveness in New Zealand's immigration system.
