Having travelled on some of the world’s best trains in Sri Lanka, I was keen to see what Indonesia had to offer.

But my journey from Yogyakarta to Bandung wouldn’t necessarily be a direct comparison - this one from Yogyakarta to Bandung promised panoramic views from an extra special carriage fitted with enormous glass windows.

It came at a price, however. My ticket cost me 1,200,000 Rp (around $75), which was several times the price of even a first class seat!

With much anticipation I boarded the train bound for Bandung and settled into my seat, reviewing the service and chatting to friendly passengers and the incredible staff members along the way.

There was also some interesting local food served on the train, and I had opportunity to review the nasi ayam, sambal, and even popcorn as the world rolled by.

The 7 hours flew by, and before I knew it, I was nearly in Bandung. The route offered some incredible views, right up there with the best rail journeys in the world. It might just be the world’s most scenic train ride - at least, on my journey so far…
