GetSportsFocus.com - For the first time in 86 years the Bakersfield Drillers (13-2) are bringing a state title back to their school. In the CIF Division I State Championship game, quarterback Asauni Rufus led his team to a 56-26 win over the Del Oro Golden Eagles (13-3).

Nevada-bound Asauni Rufus played his last game under center for the Drillers, completing 5-of-7 passes for 71 yards and a touchdown but he was even more deadly on the ground, rushing for 184 yards and two scores. Del Oro could never get a lead against Bakersfield as Rufus was the point-man for an offense that scored 28 points in both halves. The Drillers' triple-option attack helped open up the field for three other backs to score at least once. Finally, the defense sacked Del Oro QB Michael Moore seven times while racking up four interceptions.

The Golden Eagles leaned on running back Dylan Kainrath who rushed for 198 yards and three touchdowns including two scores in the first quarter that kept Del Oro in a 21-14 game. The power running game helped win the time of possession battle but it wasn't enough as Del Oro's defense allowed 320 rushing yards. Going into the second half down 28-17, Michael Moore could not lead his offense to any points in the third quarter. In the last two quarters, the Golden Eagles were outscored 28-9.

Asauni Rufus finished the 2013 season with 12 touchdown passes to only one interception while rushing for 1,831 yards and 31 touchdowns. He will most likely play defensive back at Nevada but Bakersfield Head Coach Ron Golla said he believes Rufus can play quarterback at the collegiate level.
