About this video: OptiFine 1.21 is one of the most anticipated mods for Minecraft. It adds in things like shaders, better performance, smooth lighting, zoom, and so much more. Sadly, OptiFine 1.21 isn’t out yet, and that means you will need to OptiFine alternative mods for 1.21 to get these features. The good news is that we have made a modpack that strives to get Optifine parity as fast as possible. It’s called NotiFine, and it allows you to get 1.21 OptiFine features even though it hasn’t updated yet.

There are two ways to get this modpack - CurseForge and Modrinth. We also have most of the mods used in NotiFine linked above. That will allow you to choose the mods you want if you don’t want to use the modpack.

To get NotiFine in this video, we will be using CurseForge, but Modrinth is great as well and it can be downloaded like any other pack on Modrinth.

To get the OptiFine 1.21 alternative modpack, start off by downloading CurseForge. There is a link in the description above to a complete guide on getting CurseForge. This is basically just downloading the CurseForge app like any other program and installing it. From there, you can select Minecraft and set it up in the app by clicking “Continue”.

Then, search for “NotiFine” at the top. This will pull up the NotiFine modpack. Once you find it, click on “Install”, and the modpack will install.

After the 1.21 OptiFine alternative modpack is installed, click on the “Play” button to open the Minecraft Launcher. Login to the launcher and click “Play” clicking “Play” again to confirm you are playing modded Minecraft.

Finally, Minecraft 1.21 will open up with OptiFine’s features. To enable shaders in Minecraft 1.21 without OptiFine, click on “Options”, “Video Settings” Shader Packs” at the top. NotiFine has two shader packs installed by default - Complementary Shaders and MakeUp UltraFast Shaders. More shaders packs will work and can be added if you want.

You can also change around other video settings within the Video Settings menu. Turning down render distance, shadows, etc, will increase FPS. However, it is worth noting that while typically 100+ FPS is possible with NotiFine providing a huge FPS boost, you only need 30FPS to play Minecraft without lag.

You may want to move your saves into the 1.21 NotiFine modpack. This is done by copying your saves from your .minecraft folder into the saves within the NotiFine modpack’s folder. We go over doing this in-depth in the video.

Nevertheless, you now know how to get OptiFine 1.21 using the OptiFine alternative modpack. This provides access to all of OptiFine’s features without having to download OptiFine 1.21 and get it installed.
