The Rosary is a Scripture-based meditative prayer. When we pray the Rosary, we ask Mary to pray for us as we contemplate the life, death, and resurrection of her son Jesus.

The Rosary dates back to the year 800, but it has evolved over the centuries to become the Rosary that we know today. The Rosary invites us to a beautiful meditation on Jesus and the Holy Virgin Mary's lives. We can pray the Rosary alone or with others for a variety of intentions, always asking Our Lady's intercession.

The Rosary, as we know it today, was given to Saint Dominic of Guzman by the Virgin Mary herself in 1214. She gave it to him to fight the heretics and sinners of the time, and she also asked him to teach people how to pray it and spread this devotion all over the world. All Catholics are still responsible for spreading the devotion to the Holy Rosary.

Since then, Christians have prayed the Rosary while reflecting on 15 mysteries from the lives of Our Lord Jesus and the Virgin Mary. Saint Pope John Paul II added five new mysteries, known as the Luminous Mysteries, in 2002. So, for the time being, we are contemplating 20 mysteries.

We'll tell you how to pray the Rosary without further ado. If you are a beginner, you can begin by praying one mystery (or one "decade" of ten Hail Marys) per day until your stamina improves. It is never too late to begin.
