Ruben Ostlund's 2017 film The Square is not a movie in the traditional sense. Rather, it uses film and cinematic techniques to examine a multitude of artistic and social constructs that may lay at the heart of numerous cultures and societies.

At heart a blistering satire and send up of a grab bag of concepts, the film eschews traditional narrative in favor of asking subtle but pointed questions through use of metaphysical and non-narrative devices. It is a film better appreciated than enjoyed, and one that lends itself to numerous conversations upon completion.

With all that said, The Square can be a dense and obtuse film, so join Jason and Ryan as they pick apart the meat and potatoes of what Ruben Ostlund's observations and messages may be, and offer various interpretations for consideration and further discussion.
