The Volkswagen Jetta, a staple in the automobile market, is set to receive a substantial update for the 2025 model year. This seventh-generation model, which first appeared in the United States in 2019 and received a minor facelift in 2022, is now undergoing a more comprehensive refresh that includes a new look and additional features.

Starting with the exterior, the 2025 Jetta boasts a redesigned front fascia featuring two new grilles, sleeker LED headlights, and an optional full-width light bar in the upper grille for the Sport model and above. The rear of the Jetta is also enhanced with a new full-width taillight bar. Standard 17-inch wheels are included, while 18-inch wheels are available on the SEL and GLI trims.

Inside, Volkswagen has revamped the interior with a new "three-line" dashboard design and fresh color options such as Seawall Blue and Storm Grey. An 8.0-inch touchscreen is now standard across all models, offering features like SiriusXM satellite radio and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Although the touch-capacitive controls on the center console and the steering wheel of the GLI model remain, they are now illuminated, as seen in other updated Volkswagen models. However, there is good news for GLI enthusiasts: Volkswagen is transitioning to a traditional steering wheel for the GLI.

The powertrain remains unchanged. The base Jetta continues to use a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 158 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, now paired exclusively with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, as the manual option has been discontinued. The sportier Jetta GLI retains its turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, producing 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The GLI can still be equipped with a six-speed manual transmission or an optional seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, along with bigger brakes, a limited-slip differential, and an adaptive suspension.

Every 2025 Jetta model, including the GLI, comes standard with Volkswagen's IQ.Drive active safety technology, which features forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, active blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control.

The 2025 Volkswagen Jetta and Jetta GLI will be available for purchase in the third quarter of 2024. The base Jetta, now equipped with a standard automatic transmission, starts at $23,295, slightly cheaper than the outgoing model. Further pricing details will be announced closer to the release date.
