I replaced the starter on a 2004 Suzuki Forenza. 2004-2008 are the same in regard to this part and its location. Replacing the starter on a Suzuki Forenza is a tough job that can save you between $430 to $668 in labor costs, if you have the necessary tools and skills.

*Feel around all you want for the top mounting bolt, you won't find it on the starter. The bolt screws into the starter, from the bell housing. It's 19 mm. To remove the top mounting bolt you'll need either a box wrench or an adjustable head ratchet.

*The bottom mounting bolt is, in fact, a stud with a welded 14 mm nut. The ground wire connects to the stud with another 14 mm nut. The trick is to unscrew the top nut without loosening the stud in the process, cinching the ground wire. I used a torch and the top nut came off easily. You could also use a wrench to hold the stud in place while you turn the nut.

*There's only two wires to connect to the solenoid. One is a plug that very easily snaps into place. The other is the battery wire. Make sure the ladder is seated properly; no crossing of wires which is easy to do in the very tight working space behind the engine. You'll know you crossed the wires if, when you reinstall the battery cables, you get electrical arcing. Obviously, don't continue connecting the battery in the case; fix the problem.

*In the video I show you the trick I used to hold my new starter in place as I installed the top mounting bolt. That will save you a lot of time.

**I am a DIYer, not a mechanic, giving you my own experience installing this particular starter on the specific vehicles displayed in the video. Your car and your starter may differ.

Good luck on your project!
