This is perhaps the most famous image to have emerged from the Second World War. Six men struggling to raise the Stars and Stripes over a shattered battlefield. You may very well recognize the image, you may know the battlefield, and you may know the names of some of the men involved. But do you know what happened to these men after the image was taken? Did they survive the most brutal campaign the Americans had to fight in Second World War?
