In this video I show an easy compound cut. A compound cut is done by cutting from two different directions. The pattern needed a 1" by 1" by 4" block of wood so I laminated 1/4" strips of walnut together with wood glue and dressed it up with my hand plane and a sander. Different woods could be mixed both horizonal or vertical to get different effects, or you can cut the proper sized block out of wood of at least 1" thickness on a table saw for a solid block. I used walnut because it is what I have on hand. I have found that a harder wood cuts cleaner with a shiny smooth surface. My best results have been with rosewood. On a compound cut I prefer to use a #3 or #5 skip tooth blade non reverse tooth. The reverse teeth are not needed to keep the bottom of the finished piece smooth and they make it difficult to hold the work piece down against the surface as the blade strokes upward. After cutting the first side you then must secure all the pieces with tape or Steve Good has a jig for doing so (link below). You then flip the piece and make the second cuts and then remove all the pieces to expose the finished piece.
