It Looks Complicated - It's Super Simple! The Three Panel Patch Block

This is a block to impress people with. It looks spectacularly complicated, but it's all done with three simple strips. I am using Liberty again - Tana Lawn this time.

I've used Wiltshire, Donna Leigh D Green and Betsy D Green in this panel.
I used 1 1/2" strips.

If you have never tried traditional pieced patchwork before, this is a fabulous starting point. I hope that I can help you avoid some of the pitfalls too.

You can use almost any fabric when creating patchwork, but if this is your first go, I recommend quilting cotton. You are looking for something that feels similar to a man's shirt. It doesn't fray too badly, holds its shape well and is easy to sew by hand.

Patchwork is ideal for re-using fabrics that have meaning, or garments that cannot be passed on because of damage or stains. It's a true women's craft - practiced all around the world in countless ways. It will be lots of fun to travel the world in patchwork and see what we might find.
