We take our quest for the Texas Monthly Top 50 BBQ joint adventure to Houston. There are eight bbq joints in and around Houston on the top 50 list. They are Corkscrew BBQ, Tejas Chocolate and Barbecue, Feges BBQ, Blood Brothers BBQ, 1701 BBQ, Truth BBQ, Killen's, Bretts BBQ Shop, and LJ's BBQ. That is a lot of barbecue in a long weekend. We're not sure we're going to get it all done. Come along and find out! We did not let a few issues with collecting our BBQ Passport stamps slow us down!

The first stop on the list was Corkscrew Barbecue. We did this during the day and hit the lunch rush. It still wasn't bad and we both agree that this was some excellent brisket. They had a neat location with a large backyard that was warm and inviting.

Next, we hit up Tejas, Chocolate + Barbecue. We have never seen a barbecue place with chocolate. They also had beer on tap. We really enjoyed the pastrami.

Feges BBQ is in a food court near downtown Houston. It was a little rough finding the place but it was worth the adventure. They have a second location and we visited that one as well.

Blood Brothers Barbecue was a surprise for us. It was in a strip mall but had outdoor seating. They had a very interesting and unique Asian-flared barbecue menu. This is one we would like to visit again and explore more of the menu.

For 1701 Barbecue we had to take a drive out to Beaumont Texas in the rain. We had never been to Beaumont, which was quite an adventure. We decided that if you're going to get a barbecue Thanksgiving dinner, it should come from 1701 Barbecue!

Truth Barbecue near downtown, Houston is probably one of Houston's best all-around barbecue places. There were people waiting in line for 2+ hours in the rain.

We had the most issues with Brett's BBQ Shop. It took two trips to get our stamp. Brett was not doing normal operations when we visited Houston. They were in the process of switching to a new location and were only doing pop-up sales so we had to come back the following weekend to taste the brisket and to get the passport stamp.

The final stop on this adventure was LJ's barbecue. LJ's barbecue is located in Brenham Texas, and is a little out-of-the-way but worth the stop for the brisket. Plus the people in Brenham and LJ's were extremely friendly!

We covered a lot of ground and meat in this video. Our success gave us the confidence that we could continue on and try to finish the rest of the top 50 Texas monthly barbecue challenge.

Stay tuned as we continue our BBQ Road Trip across Texas!
