Venice Carnival 2024, from February 3rd to 13th, commemorates and honors the lagoon city’s most illustrious native son Marco Polo's 700th death anniversary. The theme is "To the Orient -- Marco Polo's Amazing Journey".

Venice Carnival traces its origins to 1162. It was abolished in 1797 and revived in 1979, attracting approximately 3 million visitors worldwide.

Venice Carnival is renowned for its extravagant costumes and masks. People dress in fancy and elaborate costumes and masks, walking around or posing in front of the many landmarks. One thing often frowned upon elsewhere but readily acceptable during the Venice festival is that most people in make-up are open to pose with other revelers or as subjects themselves for photography.

Venice Carnival's notable events include: costume show, costume competition, music, theater, acrobatics, clowns and the Marie's parade. This video highlights these events on 2/3 and 2/4.
