Inspired by our visit to Cuba here is our 4th tutorial video, Palo (pah lo).https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palo_(r...)

Slaves forcibly brought from the Congo region of Africa to Cuba continued their religious beliefs through music and dance. Palo is one living example of such religious music.

In the video, each instrument is highlighted, allowing you to understand its role. In addition, the clave is highlighted on a separate screen. Viewers can go directly to the section of their interest by clicking on it in the list provided above.

We are driving around the world in our 1983 Toyota Land Cruiser named Nulla. Our favorite moments are when we find that intersection of music and art. We spent almost two months in Cuba at the beginning of 2023. The highlight of our time in Havana was studying with legendary drummers and percussionists. Almost daily, we studied Cuban rhythms with Maestro Maximino Duquesne Martinez. The time with Maestro Maximino was an honor we will never forget, and we thank him for the opportunity.

We also want to thank Lazaro Rizo and Juan Bencomo, who shared their time with us and are featured in the video. In addition, we want to recognize and thank Miguelito Leon, who supported, coordinated the artists, and directed the development of the video. These artists are all members of the Rumba All Stars. You can follow them @RumbaAllStars.

We hope this video shares some of what we learned and enjoyed during our time in Cuba. I am a long-time student of the drum. It is from my experience as a student that I share this tutorial video.
