Short Tutorial on how to get a Blue Burst Dye effect on a Guitar

After watching a ridiculous number of youtube videos all about how to get the PERFECT burst effect on a guitar using dye, I finally decided to dive right in and try my hand at a translucent blue burst dye effect on my figured maple guitar kit!

What I discovered was that this process is actually WAY easier than many tutorial videos out there would lead you to believe! Many tutorials suggest layering the dye and sanding in between each application of dye. I found that this was completely unnecessary and in fact, can have a negative effect on the depth of the grain and WORSE can result in you accidently sanding right through the veneer! UHG!

The dye method I decided to use on my guitar kit was a "dye once, cry once" method. Basically, I sanded the veneer down, raised the grain, then sanded again with 400 grit paper. Then I carefully applied dye starting with the lights mixture first, and then working my way to the darker mixtures. This ultimately resulted in a PERFECT blue burst effect on my guitar using water based dye from Trans Tint.

If you have any tips, tricks, or suggestions, let me know in the comments!
