Michelle Cappel was first diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer in 2017. After successful treatment, she was NED (no evidence of disease) for two and a half years before the cancer returned in her leg in 2020. She has undergone multiple treatments including chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery to remove the tumor in her leg.

Michelle emphasizes the importance of being your own advocate, educating yourself about your disease, and getting screened regularly for colorectal cancer. She talks about the anxiety leading up to scans and the survivor's guilt she feels when others with the disease pass away. Michelle finds purpose in sharing her story and helping other patients, saying we need to talk openly about this disease. She wants to live fully and make every moment count, not knowing how long she'll be able to defy the odds.
