The annexation of the German areas eastern side of the Oder and Neisse rivers to Poland in 1945 involved a difficult process of almost whole population exchange and taking possession of the region where the war had caused enormous destruction. The term "Wild West" referred to the prevailing chaos and the "law of the stronger" to be
applicable above the Odra River was also associated with a new type of freedom and the possibility of starting everything from the beginning. The arrival to these areas of the first Polish forced laborers, and then the settlers, who
mostly exiles from other parts of Poland, led to a temporary contact between Poles, Germans and Soviet soldiers.
This is what life was alike in post-war Kłodzko.
