Over the centuries, Ujjain has been house to a number of magnificent structures, temples, monuments and caves. in this holy city of Ujjain we are going to visit its very famous Bhartrihari caves. Artistically carved the caves are situated near the temple Gadkalika above the bank of river Kshipra and is one of the major tourist spots in Ujjain. Every year thousands of tourists from across the world visit this famous monumental place to witness the art and architecture of the cave. The history of the caves dates back to ancient era when the place was under the rule of King Vikaramaditya. Today Government of Madhya Pradesh looks after the preservation of this architectural master piece of the ancient era.

1) काल भैरव मंदिर, उज्जैन स्थित एक हिन्दू मंदिर है जो कि भगवान काल भैरव को समर्पित है। यह महाकाल मंदिर से लगभग पाँच किलोमीटर की दूरी पर स्थित है। यह दुनिया का एक मात्र ऐसा मंदिर है जहां पर भगवान भैरवनाथ पर मदिरा का चढ़ावा चढ़ाया जाता है । आपको इस मंदिर के बाहर में सभी सामग्री मिल जाएगी । इस मंदिर तक पहुंचने के लिए आपको उज्जैन से हर संभव सहायता मिल जाएगी । बस ,टैक्सी ,मिल जाती हैं ।मंदिर परिसर बहुत ही अच्छा है
2)गढ़कालिका मंदिर, मध्य प्रदेश के उज्जैन शहर में स्थित है। कालजयी कवि कालिदास गढ़ कालिका देवी के उपासक थे। कालिदास के संबंध में मान्यता है कि जब से वे इस मंदिर में पूजा-अर्चना करने लगे तभी से उनके प्रतिभाशाली व्यक्तित्व का निर्माण होने लगा। कालिदास रचित 'श्यामला दंडक' महाकाली स्तोत्र एक सुंदर रचना है। ऐसा कहा जाता है कि महाकवि के मुख से सबसे पहले यही स्तोत्र प्रकट हुआ था। यहाँ प्रत्येक वर्ष कालिदास समारोह के आयोजन के पूर्व माँ कालिका की आराधना की जाती है।गढ़ कालिका के मंदिर में माँ कालिका के दर्शन के लिए रोज हजारों भक्तों की भीड़ जुटती है। तांत्रिकों की देवी कालिका के इस चमत्कारिक मंदिर की प्राचीनता के विषय में कोई नहीं जानता, फिर भी माना जाता है कि इसकी स्थापना महाभारतकाल में हुई थी, लेकिन मूर्ति सतयुग के काल की है। बाद में इस प्राचीन मंदिर का जीर्णोद्धार सम्राट हर्षवर्धन द्वारा किए जाने का उल्लेख मिलता है। स्टेटकाल में ग्वालियर के महाराजा ने इसका पुनर्निर्माण कराया।

3) Like other spots of Ujjain, Bhartrihari caves also have a history linked with it. According to legends these caves, assigned to 11th century owe their name from Bhartrihari the step brother of King Vikaramaditya. It is said that when Bhartrihari decided to renounce the worldly life, he came here in search of a peace to continue his meditation. In due course of time these caves became his shelter where he spend considerable part of his life. Bhartrihari was a very learned man. He was a great scholar of his time. He also had a good depth and knowledge of poetry. Many of his great works are studied and researched by students and scholars even today. His contribution to the Sanskrit language is immense. Some of his great works like Shringarshatak, Vairagyashatak, and Nitishatak are considered as gems of Indian literature . It is generally believed that all these works were possibly written here only.
