Recorded live at the work's premiere at the Koninklijk Theater Carre, Amsterdam on June 14th 1979 as performed by the Steve Reich and Netherlands Wind Ensemble, directed by Reinbert De Leeuw.

There are several significant differences between the Dutch premiered version of the piece and the finalized "New York" score: 1. the former is performed at a slightly slower tempo, 2. there are two flutes (rather than just one) and no violas in this arrangement, 3. the strings, voices, and reeds stand out over the percussion instruments here and the inverse is true on the official ECM release, and 4. there is a fifth section in the middle of the piece heard here that was cut out of the final version because Reich felt that it brought the tempo of the piece down in practice.
