Early every morning when snarl ups start in Nairobi, Gatiba Ndung’u reports to work.
He operates from the Muthaiga footbridge on Thika Road.
His job is one of a kind that many would struggle to understand how he earns a livelihood.
He volunteers information on traffic situation on Thika Road to PSV operators who in turn pay him what they think he deserves for his services.
He started this job 8 years ago after realising Matatus waste much of their otherwise productive time on traffic jams.
His idea picked up when the 4 matatus he started with starting beating competitors by up to 3 trips per day.
He serves more 400 matatus every day.
He argues that traffic jams in Nairobi are caused by private vehicles as opposed to PSVs contrary to what many believe.
Biggest challenge to his job is being mistaken for a member Mungiki gang.
