Performative Work Doesn't Work

I’m having a bad health day, so I’m at home in my comfy chair with my shawl and my heating pad. As the CEO of my own company, I'm so grateful that I no longer have to go into the office when I'm sick just so a boss can see me sit at a desk, staring at work I'm unable to focus on because I'm too physically uncomfortable to do so - and that I'm able to provide the same "luxury" for my employee.

Obviously, there are some jobs where being present in the physical environment is required, but when it comes to desk jobs, employers' insistence that employees "come back to the office" even while ill is trading performative working for the ability to actually deliver results.

About Me: I'm Marina Martinez-Bateman, the CEO of New Coyote Consulting (https://newcoyote.com), an equity and communications firm from the Pacific Northwest, and designer/author of The Planner for Doing Less (https://marinaisgo.gumroad.com/l/DoLess).
