MY FOOLISH HEART, The Upbeats, (Swan #4010) 1958
Flipside: JUST LIKE IN THE MOVIES – Here is another really great cover song from my music collection. The Upbeats hailed from Philadelphia, PA. Group members were, John MacGilivat, James MacGilivat, Pat De Witt and David Starkey.

The Upbeats had only one song charted nationally on Billboard, the flipside of this upload, “JUST LIKE IN THE MOVIES”. It charted in August 1958 for 3 weeks and reached #75. In 1959 they beat Brian Hyland to the bikini theme with their release of “TEENIE WEENIE BIKINI” (Joy # 229) without success.

The Upbeats’ complete disography!
1957 – “I DON'T KNOW / NEVER IN MY LIFE” (PREP #119)
1958 – “WILL YOU BE MINE / MY LAST FRONTIER” (PREP #131)
1958 – “JUST LIKE IN THE MOVIES / MY FOOLISH HEART” (SWAN #4010)
1958 – “THE NIGHT WE BOTH SAID GOODBYE/OH WHAT IT SEEMED TO BE” Joy #223) 1959
1959 – “YOU ARE THE ONE I CARE FOR / KEEP COOL CRAZY HEART” (JOY #227)
1959 – “SATIN SHOES / TEENIE WEENIE BIKINI” (JOY #229)
1959 – “UNBELIEVABLE LOVE / TO ME YOU'RE A SONG” (JOY #233)

"MY FOOLISH HEART" was written in 1949 by Victor Young and Ned Washington for the movie of the same name starring Dana Andrews and Susan Hayward. “MY FOOLISH HEART” was introduced in the movie by singer Martha Mears. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song but lost out to “BABY IT’S COLD OUTSIDE.”

The song is considered a standard and has been recorded by many artists: Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby, Tony Bennett, Lesley Gore, Robin Ward, The Flamingos, The Demensions, The Roomates, The Joytones, The Firebirds, The Excels, The Matadors and just too many more to list.

Enjoy this really great cover version of “MY FOOLISH HEART” by The Upbeats!
