Our visit to Tar Hollow State Park in Laurelville, Ohio, from Sun-Wed, August 24-28, 2024. We had the entire loop to ourselves, at least until our good friends joined us in the site next to us. This park is a hidden gem, for sure! We loved the spaciousness, plenty of room between sites on this long, grassy loop, even if all the sites had been occupied.

We had Tar Hollow on our list every year since 2021, and somehow ended up canceling them for longer trips elsewhere. We almost didn't go again this year, since we were recovering from Covid and unsure if we would have our strength back, and also because it was going to be between 90-100 degrees every day! Yes, it was hot, but really only for a few hours in the peak of the afternoon. The mornings and evenings were pleasant, and riding bikes was great with the wind providing a nice breeze as we rode. The park had some nice features, like the awesome playground, a ping-pong table, putt-putt golf, and nice roads for biking. The lake was small, but great for kayaking and fishing. The beach area was separated from the boating area but a long fishing dock, which made it nice for both swimmers and boaters. All in all, it was a great park!

As always, we enjoyed having our friends, Bob and Cindy, join us, sharing our campfires, sitting in the shade, and riding bikes together. They are good company!

If you are thinking of going to Tar Hollow, you may want to try to squeeze it in this year, since they are closing the campground for the 2025 season for upgrades. We were told they are putting in some full hook-ups, paving some of the pads, and modernizing the restrooms and shower houses. We hope it will still maintain the rustic charm throughout this beautiful state park!
