Hi, this is Carl the landscape guy. When I started my Koi hobby years ago, I didn’t think it would become such an integral part of this channel. But I'm very pleased about that and I love to give you updates on the Koi family from time to time. Thank you again to all the supporters of my channel. The Koi are developing splendidly and seem content. Now in June, the water is almost 20 ° C, like 68° F. Accordingly, the Koi are very active and are swimming all around the pond. Here we see the female parent. The Mama-Koi is now 14 years old and has been in this pond for 5 years. She is very sociable and likes to hang out with the other koi. Here we have the male parent. The all-white Papa-koi is a little smaller than the female. Here is one of their offsprings, busy searching the water lilies for something to eat. Natural food is still the best option, in my opinion. The Koi do not grow super fast, but therefore stay healthier in the long term. This fish is now 3 years old. Most 3 year olds now have a size of about 30 to 35 cm. Keep in mind that they have wintered here in the cold and were fed relatively little. Here they like to look for food under the reeds. The water level is much higher than last year around this time. Thanks to some rainfall, the water level is currently ideal. Through evaporation and also low groundwater levels from hot weather periods, the water level can fluctuate quite a bit. But in a natural pond without a liner that's completely normal. By the way, the Cormorant net has already protected the koi very well this year. Without the net, there wouldn’t be hardly any fish left in the pond. This was in spring, when the heron tried to fish through the net, but he came out empty handed. There are plenty of other lakes and canals nearby for him to go fishing. But the fish are probably not as easy to see as they are here in my pond. So now let's feed the Koi a little. As soon as they notice that someone is standing at the feeding place, they start racing each other. Today, even the Mama-Koi is one of the first ones. Usually she takes her own sweet time. Of course, the young ones try to eat as much as possible. And the white Papa-Koi is always in the front. I bet the mother says something like, "Children behave yourself, what will the viewers think! and don't learn from your father! "She stays further away and lets the youngsters eat, that's pretty interesting. So I make sure she gets an extra portion of food. I get the impression that the family enjoys the community a lot. Well (you know) obviously, they’ve met. But it also reinforces why Koi should not be kept alone. Nevertheless, I'll sell some of the koi. For this I will use a big pulling net to get all the fish out of the pond. We will see if there are any other fish in the pond. Then I will count and sort the koi. I can’t keep all of them, because that would put a lot of pressure on the water quality. Please write in the comments how many of the Koi you think I should keep. I want to ensure that the natural water quality in this pond stays as high as possible. So the upcoming videos will certainly be interesting and I’ll be happy if you would join me again. With a subscription, you support my channel and ensure that I can make more videos. Thanks for watching and have a nice day! See you soon! Your Carl the landscape guy.
