In this video, we capture Class 55 Deltic D9000 Royal Scots Grey thrashing through platform 3 at Doncaster on the Edinburgh Christmas Market Day 4 from Edinburgh Waverley to London Kings Cross via York.

The 4 day tour would see the Deltic haul the train from Kings Cross to York on the 1st day and return on the 4th with A4 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley taking the tour from York to Edinburgh with day 2 being a rest day and day 3 being Edinburgh to Dunfermline & return via Stirling with the A4.

However, due to an unfortunate piston failure with 60007, Class 40 D213 Andania was sent up to Scotland from Crewe to replace her for the remaining parts of the tour. The 40 would also bring Class 20 20132 which would take the A4 back to Crewe to be fixed

We were planning on capturing the tour during day 1 but being in the final year of uni, my project came first and due to awkward train timings during day 4 we were also unable to capture the 40 capturing the Deltic through Doncaster was our only option.

It was originally planned to pass through on the Up Fast at speed but unfortunately due to arriving into the Doncaster area 4 mins early and a late running Hull Trains Hull to Kings Cross service leaving just after the early tour passed the train was unfortunately sent through platform 3 much to everyone's disappointment! However, D9000 still gave out a great performance as she powered through nonetheless.

Overall it was disappointing she wasn't on the Up Fast but it just means we'll have to try again another time but it was great to see one of the mainlines finest and we hope to capture more mainline Deltic action next year as it's been great to see two of them back out on the mainline after a good while!
