I had a custom reach out with a small credenza they wanted built. From the moment I saw what they had in mind I wanted to do it. I’ve been in the stone business for 18 years and this was a great piece to meld my love of wood and stone into one.
I needed to start by building the top first as it needed to match the base that was provided. I didn’t want to build cabinets then try too wrap them because there are to many problems that could have arose. The idea is super simple mitering and water falling the panels. Biggest thing I needed to make sure happen was checking evert was square and matched.
Once the top was made I got busy making the cabinet pieces. I was back and forth if I was going to make one large piece or three separate ones. I ended up making three separate cabinets and combined them.
After the cabinets were constructed and combined I made the face frame for it.
I set the cabinet inside the quartz structure off camera for two reasons. First I knew it wasn’t going to go in the first time. There were a couple fitting issues that arose and second. I forgot to push record. Just know it is in there and secured. Once it was in there I was able to attach the base.
Once the base was on and it was upright I got started on the drawers.I had a lot of math I had to do to make sure they got put in the right spots.
The doors and drawer faces were going to be one big panel cut up into each piece that needed the grain to all flow together. This might have been the most nerve racking part because if I mess up a cut i would have to start from scratch. Luckily I measured twice and cut once I nailed it.
From there it was then the task of attaching the doors and the drawer faces on. This was also very stressful as I wanted all the gaps between everything to be equal. So there was a bit of fine tuning between shots done.
To cover the back I used some 1/4” walnut ply then it was time to install.
This piece was super fun to make and I plan on doing more in the future. Thanks for watching, I’ll catch you on the next build.
Cheers.
