In this video, I review the memoir: From Here to the Great Unknown ... by Lisa Marie Presley and Riley Keough. This book is an Oprah Book Club Selection. It was released Oct. 8, 2024 posthumously (Lisa Marie died Jan. 12, 2013). I purchased my book from Amazon and my Mom's book from Bear Pond Books, Montpelier, Vermont.
SPECIAL NOTE: Book trigger warnings you might want to be aware of: Drugs, childhood sexual abuse, suicide, language, grief/child loss of a parent, grief/parent loss of a child.
In my report, I talk about the trigger warnings for this book, main points/thoughts stood out to me, what I liked and didn't like, whether it will be a keeper book for me and who I think will like it.
I try very hard not to do any actual spoilers ... it's very hard to talk about a book without revealing some elements about it but hopefully I didn't reveal too much in the video.
As someone who loves to read about the life of Elvis, I was very eager to read this book (about Elvis and Priscilla's only child) and had been looking forward to it before Lisa Marie's death when I heard she was working on it! I also like to read memoirs very much and oddly enough, I like to study addiction and I knew she had struggled with that though out her life. I'll admit, this was an emotionally tough book to read ... but it has a lot of joy in it too and the spirit of being a survivor ... and it clears up lots of things + it's a miracle it got released given the fact that there are some shocking revelations and it could not have been easy for Riley to take this project on so soon after losing her mother. I believe she has honored her Mom's wishes in doing this and I have great respect for how hard it must have been.
Thanks for watching and let me know in the comments, are you planning to read this? If you have any questions I'll be glad to try to answer them for you.
