Can we really expect society’s engineers, software developers and tech CEOs to be experts in the ethical, social and political implications of technology and artificial intelligence? If not, who’s minding the store when it comes to the many issues associated with technology, including freedom of speech, election interference, data security and personal privacy?

Join us as we explore the urgent need for incorporating a philosophical perspective into the rapid development of technology, with two McGill professors who will take a closer look at these issues and set the stage for a new gift from the Jarislowsky Foundation to help establish the Stephen Jarislowsky Chair in Technology and Human Nature.

Panelists:

Ian Gold, Professor, Departments of Philosophy and Psychiatry

Joelle Pineau, Associate Professor and William Dawson Scholar, School of Computer Science; co-Managing Director of Facebook AI Research
