Peter Anyang' Nyong'o, former Minister of Medical Services for Kenya, spoke at the Harvard School of Public Health as part of the Decision-making: Voices from the Field leadership discussion series November 14, 2013. Watch the entire series at http://hsph.me/voices.

The Decision-making: Voices from the Field webcast leadership discussion series at Harvard School of Public Health invites leaders to speak about their experiences making decisions that affect global health. Highly interactive and candid, the series is produced in The Leadership Studio for a student audience. The high-definition webcast is streamed live and posted for future viewing. Students learn from experienced leaders about decisions that were effective, decisions that failed, and which decisions, if any, could have been made differently.

Professor Peter Anyang' Nyong'o has taught at the University of Nairobi, El Colegio de Mexico, and Addis Ababa University, and joined the African Academy of Sciences as Head of Programs from 1987 to 1992. Having been involved in the struggle against authoritarian rule in Kenya throughout his academic career, Professor Anyang' Nyong'o was among the leaders who made a break through into multiple party politics in 1992. He was then elected to Parliament in that year and has served in various capacities since then. He was Minister for Planning and National Development from 2003 to 2005 and Minister for Medical Services from 2008 to 2013. He is currently the Senator for Kisumu County. Professor Anyang' Nyong'o has published several books and articles on democracy, democratisation, the state and the political economy of development in Africa. In 1995 he was awarded the German-African Award for his contribution to democracy and democratization in Africa. Professor Anyang' Nyong'o is serving as a Brundtland Senior Leadership Fellow at the Harvard School of Public Health in Fall 2013.
